
Fruita and Grand Junction Bike Month Is Still Going Strong
May is Grand Valley Bike Month. The combination of red rock scenery, miles of trails, and perfect spring weather is why the Grand Valley is becoming one of the most recognizable MTB & cycling destinations in the Mountain West.

Crested Butte, Breckenridge, and Fruita/Grand Junction represent Colorado’s most popular MTB communities. Each year, the Western Slope sees an increased number of riders as the word spreads about year-round access. Unless there is a winter storm in the forecast, area networks like Kokopelli, Lunch Loops, and 18 Road trails are ready to go when you are.
Bike Month Events Still Bringing Riders Together
- National Bike to Work Week runs May 11–17, with Bike to Work Day happening Friday, May 15, encouraging commuters across Grand Junction to swap cars for bikes and use the city’s growing trail and bike lane network.
- Grand Valley Youth Cycling also begins its Late Spring Ride Programs on May 18. Middle School and High School Ride groups meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on trails throughout the Grand Valley
- Evening group rides happen at the Lunch Loops Trail System after work hours throughout May, near the main Monument Road trailhead in Grand Junction. Families are also spending more time at Dos Rios Bike Park, which remains open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with pump tracks, jump lines, and youth-friendly riding areas becoming increasingly popular during Bike Month.

Shops like Bicycle Outfitters, Grassroots Cycles, and Ruby Canyon Cycles help visiting riders find gear, receive trail recommendations, get repairs, rent equipment, and enjoy guided experiences. Their efforts, along with the hard work being done by both Fruita and Grand Junction, have made cycling tourism a significant part of the Grand Valley's spring economy.
