Well, shoot. Everyone is wrong once in a while. The news became official over the weekend after the Grand Junction Sentinel shared the news that Costco has opted out of the deal to open a location in Grand Junction at I-70 and 24 Road.
Costco Opts Out of Grand Junction Location
The Grand Junction Sentinel reports that developer Goldberg Properties claims a changing financial landscape has made the Grand Junction project one that is no longer viable. The Costco store that would have been just North of Canyon View Park will now have a chance to become something different.
A Closer Look At Complications
The city was going to forgo $12.3 million in tax revenue from Costco to allow them to build at the site. Developers now say that poor soil conditions at the location and escalating construction costs have contributed to the cancelation.

Expect A Large Retailer Soon
The Grand Junction Economic Partnership told the Sentinel that it's only a matter of time before a retailer similar to Costco decides to jump at the opportunity to be part of a growing community such as ours.
Grand Junction City Council worker Anna Stout said the news doesn't mean Costco won't come back to the table at a later date, but they will not be moving forward with plans to develop a location here in 2025.
