What Celebrity Would You Invite to Prom, Back in the Day
With proms coming up in the Grand Valley, we ask the question, 'going back to your younger days, what celebrity would you invite to prom if you could?'
Prom is a special time for students as their time in high school winds down. This is one of the memories they will take with them when they graduate, and will likely stay with them for the rest of their lives.
In some instances, prom dates are between couples who perhaps have been an 'item' the entire school year, or longer. For others, prom dates are the only time a couple has ever gone out together. Regardless of the circumstances, prom is a special occasion.
I never attended a school dance at any age. My mom gave me permission to go to my senior prom and I contemplated asking Char Kerr or Terry George, a couple of sophomores who were band nerds like me, but, ultimately, I chickened out.
Having never been to a dance before I feared I would make a complete fool of myself, and feel totally uncomfortable. So, I spent prom night at home, alone, in my room.
You have, perhaps, heard about the kid who was suspended from school recently for asking Miss America to go to prom with him, of course, she declined, but not many of us have never had the opportunity to even ask a celebrity to prom let alone actually go with one.
Nowadays, via social media, there have been instances where some celebrities have been approached and even consented to being a prom date. But, back in the day, we didn't have social media, and no way of contacting anyone famous, even if we wanted to.
So, for a moment, go back in time... 20, 30, 40, even 50 years agom, if you could go back in time and ask one celebrity to be your prom date, who would it be? (and remember, it' ok for girls to ask guys)
For me it would have been one of two possibilities - Valerie Bertinelli from 'One Day At a Time,' or Erin Moran, who played Joanie on 'Happy Days.'
What about you? Who was your dream prom date?
