A 10-month-old boy who is in protective custody was kidnapped this afternoon (March 8) by his mother.

UPDATE: The Mesa County Sherrif's Office says 10-month-old Jaxxon Morris has been located and is safe.

Misty Nichols, who took the child this afternoon, was taken into custody after returning to the Clifton residence where she kidnapped Morris.

Nichols is being charged with a Violation of custody order or order relating to parental responsibilities, a Class 5 Felony.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The kidnapper is 42-year old Misty Nichols who took the child from protective custody in the 200 block of 3rd Street in Clifton at around 3:50 p.m.

The child kidnapped by Nichols is Jaxxon Morris. At the time of the kidnapping, he was wearing only a shirt and a diaper. Nichols is believed to have left the area on foot.

Nichols is a white female, 140 pounds, 5-feet 5-inches tall with brown over blue colored hair. Law enforcement says her air might possibly be blonde now. Nichols was last seen wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Area law enforcement officers are actively searching for Nichols and Morris and need the public's help locating the two.

Because of the urgency of this case, anyone with information is asked to call 911.
