A man in his 60s attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old girl walking home from school in Grand Junction. Grand Junction Police are now investigating.

A 12-year-old girl was walking from Redlands Middle School after missing the bus on Monday, August 19. According to the Grand Junction Police Department, the girl was walking under the Grand Avenue Bridge on the bike path when she was approached by a man in his 60s.

The man allegedly grabbed her from behind, attempting to pull her of off the bike path. Thankfully, the girl was able to escape and run home. The suspect has a white mustache and was wearing a green and gray hat and blue jeans.

According to the 12-year-old girl, the man was holding a handgun during the incident. She was not physically injured. The Grand Junction Police Department is currently investigating the incident.

The GJPD is encouraging parents to:

....talk to kids who walk to and from school about what do if they're approached by a stranger who makes them feel unsafe. Make sure your kids are traveling in groups whenever possible, and are taking well-traveled, safe routes.
