The Grand Junction Police Department has identified the suspect in an early morning homicide.

According to police reports, Monday (March 26) at 1:41 a.m. they responded to a call in the area of 28 Road and Ridge Drive. When officers arrived, they found an adult male inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. That man was pronounced dead at the scene. Based on information from the scene, investigators determined the death a homicide.

A shelter in place notification was sent to over 1,900 residents in the neighborhoods near where the shooting took place. At the same time, police closed 28 Road from Patterson Road to Courtland Avenue to search for a suspect and continue their investigation.

In the course of the investigation, police have been able to identify a suspect who is believed to be the shooter. That person is 39-year-old Joseph Peace of Grand Junction. A warrant for Peace's arrest on a count of 2nd Degree Murder has been issued.

Peace is described as a white male approximately 5-feet 7-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. Peace has blue eyes, is bald, and has multiple tattoos. A photo of Peace was not available at the time of this story.

The identity of the victim, in this case, is expected to be released by the Mesa County Coroner's Office once the victim's family has been notified and the autopsy completed.
