Colorado's love affair with Drive-In movie theatres began as it did for most of the country after WWII. Wiki says More than 4000 of these theatres existed at one time, and they remained popular into the 1970s and 1980s.

You can still find photos of Grand Junction's Drive-In Theatres at the Mesa County Library. The Rocket Theatre at 2881 North Avenue closed in the 1990s, and The Chief Drive-In at 2868 North, closed in 1989. While other communities eased into home entertainment, Grand Junction was a community that made the most of its Drive-Ins while they lasted.
