Colorado Cop Busted For Selling Confiscated Weed
A police officer in Colorado has been charged for trying to sell marijuana that was confiscated in another bust.
James Lopez, 56, had confiscated the marijuana from a bust south of Pueblo in Rocky Ford, Colorado and according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations had taken around a pound of it to a friend to prep it for distribution.
He was placed on administrative leave and felony charges were filed against him on Tuesday. He was issued a summons and has a court appearance on March 30.
This isn't the Rocky Ford Police Department's first brush with breaking the law. In 2016 Officer James Ashby was imprisoned for 16 years after an on-duty shooting of a man over a skateboard disagreement and followed him home and shot him in the back.
According to sources, the department had been working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations on the case as well as the 16th Judicial District.
