Grand Junction may need to make a few early morning adjustments in 2027, especially if Grand Valley Transit eliminates the first hour of the city’s bus service.

GVT has been considering two proposals that are likely to affect riders who rely on daily service. Neither has been approved, but residents have until November 21 to weigh in before a final decision.

For 2027, Grand Valley Transit is considering two proposals to shorten its operating day. According to KJCT, the first would eliminate the earliest hour of service on weekdays only, leaving Saturday and other service-day schedules unchanged. The second would eliminate that same first hour every day GVT operates, including weekends.  New departure times have not been established with either proposal.

Why Grand Valley Transit Wants to Reduce Bus Hours

The Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office told KKCO the earliest hour typically has fewer passengers than other parts of the day. Planners believe that cutting the first hour of weekday service would affect the fewest commuters. Their available reports do not identify specific savings from these changes.

A public hearing is scheduled for November 12. According to KKCO, the deadline for public comments is November 21. GVT is expected to make any decisions by December 7. If approved, the changes would take effect in January.
