Casa Bonita isn't the only Colorado fixture to get new owners. A longstanding nightclub/bar in Grand Junction just announced they are under new ownership.

If you've been in Colorado for long you've probably been to this venue a thousand times. In the 80s and 90s, it was THE place to go. It's been chugging along ever since. As of yesterday, May 31, 2023, the venue's social media page announced "New Owner."

The Place To Be In Grand Junction Colorado

You've probably spent quality time at 2993 North Avenue in Grand Junction. If you were hanging out there in the 80s you were at the San Antonio Rose. In the 90s it was simply The Rose. Over the next few years, it would answer to a handful of different names.

Those hanging out at The Rose in 1993 enjoyed listening to bands like:

  • Hired Gun
  • Sierra
  • Wheels
  • Loaded Dice
  • Shot Gun

Patrons didn't bat an eye at paying a $7 cover charge for Friday's FAC. Keep in mind, back in 1991, Colorado's minimum wage was $3 per hour.

Doors would open at 5:00 on a Friday night with the bands playing from 5 to 7. The bands would then break, and resume at 9:00. Patrons all dressed like they were on their way to the CMA awards. I don't remember an enforced dress code at the time. They didn't need one. People wanted to dress up.

Back In The Day

I'm not entirely sure. Do you remember back in the mid-1990s when we used to have what I called "The Grand Junction Triangle"? You had the Rose on the southwest corner of 30 Road and the I-70B. You had J.J.'s Lounge on the northwest corner of the intersection, and you had Gators on the southeast corner.

In between all three bars making up the "Grand Junction Triangle," you would find Johnny Law, ready and willing to bust people who may have had a little too much drinky-drinky. It was kind of like shooting fish in a barrel.

Same Name, Different Owners

Decades ago, when Jack Ludwig sold the place, new owners took over but kept the name "The Rose."

Before long, the moniker was jettisoned, and the venue took on new names such as "Infinity Night Club." With each new name and owner came a new atmosphere and clientele.

Along Comes Central Station

Years ago Ron Nunnery took the helm as owner of the bar, and with that change came a new name. The address of 2993 North Avenue has been Central Station for some time now.

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the following message appeared on Central Station's Facebook page.

What Does This Mean For Grand Junction?

The short answer would be Grand Junction will retain another business offering services to local customers. In this case, a popular place with excellent square footage, ample parking, and a long history.

It's too soon to tell what the plans will be for Central Station. If you fall into the category of people who enjoy going out to a nightclub for drinks and dancing, it looks as though one option will continue to be of service.
