Authorities, acting on a tip, performed a welfare check at a Colorado Springs daycare and what they found was 26 kids, all younger than three, in the basement.

Play Mountain Place in Colorado Springs was being investigated due to a tip claiming the center had more children than it was licensed to have. Upon arriving, officers found no children inside the daycare center and an owner who was unwilling to work with the officers. The owner, 58-year-old Carla Faith, was refusing to cooperate when officers heard noises of children coming from her home.

While they were investigating the home, officers found the false wall that lead to the basement. When they entered the room they found two adults and 26 children in the finished basement of the home. The officers then contacted the Colorado Department of Human Services to reunite the children with their parents.

The owner was not arrested and three adult workers who were initially arrested and charged had the charges canceled, pending further investigation.

Parents stated they were unaware of the overcrowding issue and are hopeful things are resolved quickly.
