Would you be interested in appearing as an actor or extra in a television pilot being shot in our neck of the woods? Your chance is coming up this Tuesday, August 18.

A television pilot for a new series entitled "Badwater" is set to shoot this fall in and around Montezuma County in Colorado. According to the Durango Herald, producers of the series are searching for actors of all ages and types for the one-hour TV pilot. They have a particular interest in casting Native American Actors.

Technically, the story for "Badwater" takes place in a fictitious town in the southwest region of Colorado. Novelist Chuck Greaves, one of the talents behind the production, says the Colorado towns of Mancos, Cortez, and Dolores will serve as substitute locations for the series.

So, how do you get involved? If you're interested in an audition, an open call is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Those who make the cut for speaking roles will be asked back for a second audition. What if you simply want to appear as an extra? The producers would like to meet with you, too.

According to Greaves, this production is a SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) endeavor, fully union, paying scale wages to all cast, crew, and extras.

If you're interested in auditioning, here's a little information you'll need. Auditions will be held at:

  • Mancos Community Center in Mancos, Colorado at 130 Grand Avenue
  • Tuesday, August 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Resumes and headshots encouraged
  • Masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced
  • All ages and types welcome

What do you have to lose? I've known aspiring Grand Junction actors who've driven a lot farther than Mancos to audition for a role. Who knows? This could be the one and only fond memory you have for the year 2020.
