Are you in the market for a new job? Would you be willing to leave Western Colorado and relocate to an island 4,523 miles away? This might just be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Do you love coffee? Here's a food service opportunity that's slightly out of the ordinary. If you love coffee, and for that matter, travel, then this job has your name on it.

Have you heard of Great Blasket Island? Until five minutes ago, neither had I. According to KDVR, it's a remote island in Ireland, and it has job openings for two people willing to serve as management for the island's accommodation and coffee shop.

According to Wikipedia, Great Blasket is the principal island of the Blaskets, County Kerry, Ireland. Wikipedia adds:

The island lies approximately two kilometres from the mainland at Dunmore Head, and extends six kilometres to the southwest, rising to 292 metres at its highest point (An Cró Mór). The nearest mainland town is Dunquin; a ferry to the island operates from a nearby pier during summer months.

When it comes to this opportunity, the online job posting says the island is looking for either a couple or two friends. What kind of commitment are you looking at? The listing says the job runs April to October.

How many customers could one expect to serve on a daily basis? Looking at the demographics for the island, it seems in recent years the island's year-round population can range anywhere from two to zero inhabitants. The largest population in the island's recorded history was 160 people back in 1911.

According to the website Checkout.ie, 56% of Irish residents drink coffee at least once per day. Looking back to the year 2011, the population of the island was precisely zero. So, utilizing my grade school math skills, it seems that 56% of zero equals.... zero. This could be a very easy, if not boring, management gig.

Okay, so what is the compensation? The listing simply states "Food and accommodation are provided." That's a little vague. Perhaps those are matters best discussed during the interview process.

So, will it be easy to slide into this new job opportunity? History says it might not. According to Wikipedia:

The hostel and cafe on the island were once closed as a result of a dispute between the Irish State which wishes to make the island a national park and an individual who claims to own the greater part of the island.

Oh, man, there's nothing worse than walking into a new job already wrapped in turmoil. It seems, though, these disputes have settled, and the residents and state have reached some kind of agreement.
