These four posts can be found at the top of Mt. Garfield. They were spotted during a climb just a few weeks ago. Do you have any idea what they are for?

I would swear they weren't there when I climbed Mt. Garfield last year. For the most part, they look like four pieces of rebar sticking out of the ground. Nearby, you'll see a granite plaque, roughly 10" X 10", implanted in the ground.

Following a not-so-exhaustive Internet search, I came up empty. Naturally, the next thing to do in a situation like this is to go to Facebook. Unfortunately, this came up a bit dry, too.

You may recall a recent effort was initiated to bring the American flag back to the summit of Mt. Garfield. Is somebody already one step ahead of the game?

I'm making a sincere effort to follow the progress of this project. Unfortunately, I'm not getting any younger, and the hike to the summit of Mt. Garfield gets farther away each time. My hiking companion, a 10-year-old Chow with arthritis, isn't making the hike any better than I am. We can only get up there every so often, and preferably during cooler temperatures. If anything profound happens up there during the summer months, we won't know about it until late fall.

Since the BLM doesn't seem to want to offer any info, and my friends are being smarty pants, maybe you can tell me - What are these things doing at the top of Mt. Garfield?
