UPDATED: Two Schools on Lockdown After Reports of an Armed Man in the Area
Grand Junction High School and Tope Elementary are on lockdown while the Grand Junction Police Department is responding to a report of a man with a gun near 7th Street.
UPDATE: 2:45 p.m. The Grand Junction Police Department has been unable to find any indication of an active shooter in the area. They also found no evidence of an ongoing threat.
Students at Grand Junction High School are being released from school at their normal time. Tope Elementary students are also returning to their regular release schedule.
UPDATE: 2:01 p.m. Both Grand Junction High School and Tope Elementary have transitioned from Lockdown to Shelter in Place. Police are also asking residents and businesses in the area to shelter in place while they search the area.

In addition to the lockdowns, police have closed 7th Street between Orchard Avenue and Bookcliff Avenue while they investigate.
The lockdowns are a precautionary measure as part of the initial response. The Grand Junction Police Department has not reported any imminent danger to either school.
