It's hard to believe it was only 11 years ago today the World War II Memorial in Washington DC opened to the public. Between then and now, hundreds of World War II vets from Western Colorado have made their way to their memorial with Western Slope Honor Flight. Take a look back at our World War II vets during their trips to the memorial.

Western Slope Honor Flight made a total of five trips from Grand Junction to the World War II Memorial. Each flight carried over a hundred World War II vets along with their "guardians."

During these five trips, special guests including Bob Dole paid a visit to our vets at the memorial.

Each trip lasted a total of two days, beginning with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery on the first day, followed by the WWII Memorial on the second day.

When the flights to Washington DC came to an end, Western Slope Honor Flight used the remaining revenue generated by donations from local supporters to build a World War II monument at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction.
