Affordable tips to REDUCE your heating bill this winter!

We all want to save some money, but it's hard to do when the it's negative below outside and we're trying to keep our houses warm!

According to Repair Clinic here's the TOP TEN things you can do to reduce your heating bill:

  1. Use the Sun-Pry the EASIEST thing you can do, pull the blinds when the sun in shining to provide natural warmth. Cover windows with curtains on cold days to reduce drafts.
  2. Replace your furnace filter-Manufacturer's recommend to replace them every six months because dirty environments may make your furnace run inefficiently!
  3. Check for vent blockage-Make sure there aren't any rugs, dressers or other home decor blocking your air flow!
  4. Air Duct Cleaning-If you're still experiencing air flow problems it may be time to have your ducts cleaned. My dryer didn't want to dry anymore and I had the guy come blow the vent out and it work GREAT again!
  5. Replace weatherstripping-Most of my heat was escaping right out our front door because the weatherstripping was so old!
  6. Check attics/etc. for heat loss-Many local businesses offer a FREE energy analysis of your home to find leak, cold spots, etc. The result is that you may need to add insulation.
  7. Cover windows with plastic-Another EASY remedy.
  8. Inspect ductwork leaks-These can be sealed with, the foil-type duct tape!
  9. Closed/block unused fireplaces
  10. Last but not least you can do what my mom does and Lower your home temp, but dress in layers!
