The eviction moratorium was set to expire this past Wednesday, March 31^st, but due to financial hardship brought on by the pandemic, it has been extended by three months. There is a mixed reaction to this news as some people are excited to know they won’t be evicted as they continue to work through this difficult time. While others are not sure why the eviction moratorium needs to be extended once again.

Many People Are Still Struggling Financially From the Pandemic

Data that was collected by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development explains that one in five renters and one in ten homeowners with a mortgage payment are behind on payments. With this moratorium extension that would mean no tenant who is struggling to pay their monthly rent could be evicted by their landlord, as long as they fill out a declaration form stating why they cannot provide payment on time.
