The Monstrose County Sheriff's Office released a statement regarding the death of a 2-year-old Montrose girl.

According to the Montrose County Sheriff's Office, a 2-year-old female arrived at the Montrose Memorial Hospital on February 12, 2016, in an unresponsive state by the Montrose Fire Protection Ambulance.

The Toddler was resuscitated and flown to the Children's Hospital in Denver where she died the following day (Feb. 13).

An autopsy was performed by the Montrose County Coroner's Office of Medical Investigation that revealed the death caused by "blunt force impacts from non-accidental trauma," ruling the cause of death a homicide.

The Montrose County Coroner's Office of Medical Investigation and the Montrose County Sheriff's Office will be investigating the case further.
