Last year I was living in the ultra liberal land of California. I can't tell you how happy I am to be home in Grand Junction, CO. And for many reasons. My family being one, two being Western Colorado and people who think the same way I do. Another reason? The gun laws in California are outrageous.

I grew up in Boy Scouts, going to camp and shooting in the desert. My family and friends went hunting every year. Guns weren't a big deal. We didn't shoot them to kill or hurt anyone. But living in California the mentality is a bit different.

I purchased four handguns in California and let me tell you, it's not an easy process. In California this is what you have to go through:

  • Pick out your firearm
  • Fill out all necessary paperwork, fingerprints, signatures, etc, and pay for your firearm
  • Wait 10 days. They call this the "cooling off period"
  • If everything comes back okay, you will also have to show the gun clerk that you are able to properly load your new firearm, cock it, and unload it.
  •  If you have passed all those requirements, you'll get your firearm

That doesn't seem so bad right? Waiting 10 days is probably the worst part. And some of the process actually makes sense. But if you want to buy another firearm it's a little more time consuming:

  • Same steps as above, but this time:
  • You have to wait 30 Days between firearm purchases
  • PLUS you have to wait an addition 10 days for that "cooling off period"
  • Do the math, you have to wait a minimum of 40 days between forearm purchases

And depending on where you purchase ammo for your firearm, you will be required to be fingerprinted and have to sign your name for your purchase of ANY type of ammo.

Next I'll tell you all about the concealed carry requirements. It's proof California doesn't want you to legally carry a firearm.
