George Takei (pronounced Tah-Kay,) known to most these last 46-years as Helmsman Sulu from Star Trek, has given credence to his trademark slogan, "it's okay to be Takei," with his latest endeavor, "Allegience."

The musical "Allegience," currently showing at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, was inspired by the events of Takei and his family during World War II.  Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Takei family was forced to live in the horse stables of Santa Anita Park before being sent to the Rohwer War Relocation Center for internment in Arkansas. From there, they were transferred to the Tule Lake War Relocation Center in California.

"Allegiance" chronicles the journey of the fictional Kimura family from their farm in California to an internment camp in Wyoming and then on to a variety of other locations following the war.

"It's George Takei (whose own story as a child internee inspired the musical) who gives the story its heart and soul," says Pam Kragen in her review in the North County Times.
