Should every American get January 8 off in observance of Elvis' birthday? There are far more ridiculous holidays out there. Why not?

Imagine my dismay when I pulled up to my gym a few years ago, only to discover it was closed on account of Valentine's Day.

According to CBS News, 42% of Americans consider themselves to be Elvis fans. Doesn't that constitute a valid reason to make his birthday a national holiday?

I like trees just fine, but I wouldn't consider myself a "tree fan." Nevertheless, we observe Arbor Day.

Back in 1974, my parents took me to see Elvis in concert in Salt Lake City. Never once did I personally see Abraham Lincoln give a speech. Yet, year after year, I celebrate Lincoln's birthday while Elvis goes unacknowledged.

Let's face it, there's a pretty long stretch between New Year's and Memorial Day. We need something to break up the monotony. What do you say, shall we try to get January 8, Elvis' birthday, recognized as a national holiday?
