Have drug and alcohol expulsions in District 51 gone up or down?

A new report has been issued by the District 51 schools. It shows that student expulsions last year, relating to drugs and or alcohol, have gone down.

KJCT8 has the complete story, but basically, it looks like there has been a drop in the number of incidents involving students and drugs and alcohol.

Overall, are some of the findings:

  • Drug related expulsions down from 32 to 28 from the previous year
  • Alcohol suspensions down from two to zero.
  • Dangerous weapons incidents down from seven to three last year.

Drug and alcohol suspensions were down by nearly 13 percent.

Now, this is partially because the penalties are different. School authorities are not automatically expelling students for first or second time offenses. They have stated that is not producing the results they would like to see.
