Celebrated actor Omar Sharif has passed away, leaving countless movie buffs heartbroken. In addition to being regarded as a magnificent actor, Sharif was the heartthrob of women around the world. Did the female members of your family, particularly your grandmother, have the hots for this star of the silver screen?

My grandmother was convinced the two best looking men on the planet were Omar Sharif and Alan Alda, in that order. In her eyes, Omar Sharif could do no wrong.

As a child, did you have to sit through repeated screenings of Dr. Zhivago just so you could stare at Omar Sharif? This probably wouldn't be a big deal, but at a running time of 197 minutes, not counting the intermission, it became a bit tedious.

Perhaps more disturbing was my grandmother's belief Dr. Zhivago was the only movie Sharif ever made. Somehow, films like Funny Girl and Genghis Khan slipped by the wayside. Didn't Sharif have a role in a little film called Lawrence of Arabia?

Omar Sharif passed away today, July 10, 2015, at the age of 83 following a heart attack at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt.
