On Monday, September 14, a search team recovered a body suspected to be that of Steven Grunwald.

The 24-year-old from Greenville, New York, was reported missing on September 10 by a friend.

According to a Rocky Mountain National Park press release, park rangers completed an on-scene investigation with recovery operations by helicopter. Grunwald's body was then flown to a landing zone and transferred to the Larimer County Coroner's Office.

The search team camped out on Sunday night near Lake Powell and resumed their search efforts at sunrise on Monday. A park ranger and a team of Front Range Rescue dogs were flown to the Thatchtop area and greatly aided in the search for Grunwald.

The cause of death is currently under investigation and it is believed that Grunwald was attempting the Glacier Gorge Traverse on August 29. His body was recovered in the Notch below McHenrys and Powerll Peaks at RMNP. His last contact with family and friends was on August 28, per the RMNP press release.

Grunwald reminds me of my good friend Alex, who frequently goes on solo backpacking trips. Today, I am thinking of Grunwald's family and being extra intentional in counting my blessings.
