I was having such a good morning until I saw the headline on yahoo.com 'Your Liver May Be Eating Your Brain.'  Oh, great, my liver is a cannibal. I already feel like my brain capacity is limited, and now I discover that my liver may be to blame. Are you kidding me?

The article says that people with extra abdominal fat are three times more likely to develop memory loss and dementia, and now doctors know why.

In essence, the article states that  in people with large amounts of belly fat, the liver has to work harder to metabolize the fat.It needs a certain protein to do this and ends up snatching this critical protein from other parts of the body, including the brain. One study suggests that this protein is needed to process memory and learning. If the liver isn't cannibalizing protein from the brain,  your brain power could be increased.

Normally, when I step on the scale - as I did this morning - and see that I need to lose a few pounds - it's because I want to be able to fit into my jeans without feeling  like I am being squeezed by a hungry python. Now I have another reason to lose my belly fat.

I'm not as  young as I used to be - although I  still feel as young as I used to be. As for my brain - it feels like it may be missing a few proteins. Is my liver eating my brain? I don't know for sure, but I am thinking I better start burning a few extra calories each day. I would like to increase the chances of my 'healthy' brain lasting as long as my body.
