It has been approved and paid for. Construction is now underway on the new 5,000 seat outdoor amphitheater in Grand Junction.

The project is divided up into three separate components. The theater itself, a new and updates trail and finally slough excavation. The city has contracted these out to three Grand Junction area companies.

There is some discussion over the financial situation of the city. A very strained 2017 budget calls for many lay-offs, so how can Grand Junction fund this $3.5 million investment?

Mayor Phyllis Norris was quoted as saying:

'We have a tight budget next year, but this money has nothing to do with the operation of the city, this money is from park fund money. This money isn’t coming out of taxes or our general fund.'

The new entertainment complex will also be funded many different grants and donations by local groups and organizations.

The amphitheater is is scheduled to open in fall of 2017.
