Will Grand Junction Pay to Watch New ‘Picard’ Series?

The highly anticipated series "Picard" just debuted on CBS All Access. Will Grand Junction fork over the five bucks to watch it?

I asked via Facebook if Grand Junction viewers were willing to pay for the channel in order to see "Picard." Keep in mind, I was living in Grand Junction when people stood in line for hours in a field of weeds behind the Monument Twin Cinemas in Grand Junction to see "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." Would audiences show the same love for this new show in the franchise?

Here's the exact question I asked on Facebook:

Do you plan to watch Star Trek: Picard, and if so... are you willing to pay for CBS All Access to get it?

The almost unanimous response, in a word, was "no." Some people elaborated and responded with "nope."

Another response came in, taking the discussion one notch further.

I'm divided. I love the Picard character, and consider Patrick Stewart to be one of the best actors in the universe. I'm not one for watching TV, but the return of a great character with echoes of an incredible show might just get me to sit down for an hour and watch.

There's this matter of paying to see it, though. As near as I can tell, there are two ways to get CBS All Access. According to businessinsider.com:

•  The limited-commercials plan costs $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. This option features regular commercial interruptions during live TV, as well as commercial breaks while watching on-demand content.

• The commercial-free plan costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Under this plan, live TV still includes regular commercials, but most on-demand content does not. This means you'll be able to watch "Star Trek: Picard" without ads.

There are, of course, other shows besides Picard to be seen on CBS All Access. To be blunt, I have no interest in Star Trek: Discovery. My only motive to get the channel would be Picard. The first season includes ten episodes, and a second season has already been ordered.

With the exception of my nebulous response, it seems Grand Junction in its entirety will be doing something else tonight besides watching the debut of Picard. Make it so.
