Admit it you hate the sound of your own voice. Can't stand to hear yourself on your own Voice mail recording, or hear yourself sing Happy Birthday? Don't worry NO ONE likes the sound of their own voice and now scientists can tell you why!

No it's not because we have a bad voice, I can't even stand to listen to myself on the air.

According to scientists there are two ways for sounds to reach your inner ear:

  1. through the AIR
  2. or through the BONES in your skull

The reason we don't hear ourselves the same when we're listening to ourselves talk as we do when we listen to a recording is when you talk, your vocal cords vibrate . . . and that vibration goes through the bones in your skull, to get to our inner ear.

To break it down for you:

  • Traveling through bone causes sound frequency to be lower . . . and that's what WE hear when we talk.
  • But when we hear our RECORDED voice, at its usual pitch, the way people hear us . . . and it's unfamiliar, and we don't like it.

And to make it even simpler:

  • Traveling through bone causes a sound's frequency to be lower, which means you hear yourself talking in a deeper voice than everyone else . . . since THEY hear your voice through the air.
