Throughout life there are many people that you learn from and lots of people that try to give you advice to make life easier. What is the best life advice you have ever received?

It's easy to say from our parents because they probably teach us the most about being a good person and productive member of society. I was very fortunate to have two very hard working parents that taught me so much about life but I would say the best advice I ever received actually wasn't from a family member it was from my high school football coach by the name of Jon Eagle.

In high school I was a rebellious jerk at times, yet I thought the world revolved around me. And my high school coach was one of those guys who would tell you how it is, not just tell you what you wanted to hear.

My sophomore year of football was over and I wanted to be starting for our varsity football team both Junior and Senior year, but I wasn't putting in the work necessary to achieve those goals. Finally coach Eagle grabbed me after school one day and said why aren't you in the weight room getting stronger, and putting in the work to achieve the goals you have said you wanted to achieve. I had a long list of excuses, he cut me off and told me the best advice I've ever heard.

"Billy, you're either looking for reasons to get better, or you're looking for reasons to get worse".

Those words will stick with me the rest of my life, they are 100% true. I was trying to find excuses on why I didn't need to lift weights and to get better. And I feel like that transcends every aspect of life. Either you're working to get better or you're getting worse. Because your competition is getting better everyday, it's up to you to out work them.

I'm fortunate enough to stay in touch with my former coach through social media. It's so important to have people in your life that don't tell you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. I have used his advice throughout my career and it has helped immensely.

What is the best advice you have ever received?  And who gave you that advice?
