There's a new trend sweeping the nation - stores closing on Thanksgiving, the day before Black Friday. Which Western Colorado stores can you expect to close on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, of this year?

As near as I can tell, most people love this trend. Americans, many of them anyway, are delighted to see major retailers closing on Thanksgiving so employees can spend time at home with their families. Last year was a big year for this practice, and it seems 2018 might do even better.

Why am I mentioning this in early October? It really seemed to brighten the day for some people last year. How about a little good news today, so we might enjoy it before the holiday season officially kicks into gear?

According to Fox21News, the following Western Colorado stores will be closed for Thanksgiving 2018:

  • AT&T Company Owned Stores
  • Big 5 Sporting Goods
  • Harbor Freight Tools
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • Lowe's
  • Mattress Firm
  • Petco
  • PetSmart
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • REI
  • Sam's Club
  • Sportsman's Warehouse
  • Sprint (Retail stores closed... mall kiosks may remain open)
  • TJ Maxx
  • Tractor Supply Co.

Please note this list only includes national chains. Obviously, several locally owned businesses will follow suit. Don't be surprised if more retailers join the list as the holiday draws closer.

Kudos to these stores for closing down for the days so their employees might enjoy a little time off. Of course, each of these major retailers offer online shopping. If you find yourself anxious to get a jump on Black Friday, check out their online counterparts.
