Grand Jct. Store Joins List of Retailers Closing for Thanksgiving
Several major retail chains with stores in Grand Junction have announced they will close for Thanksgiving. One more just joined the list.
According to KKTV, the national retailer Best Buy announced yesterday they would be closing for the holiday.
To meet our customers’ changing lives this holiday, we’re enhancing the way we fulfill orders, from offering more convenient pickup options at our stores to making sure BestBuy.com orders arrive at the right time. We’re also going to start offering some of the hottest deals of the season earlier than ever, to make it even easier for our customers to check off their gift lists. With these changes, we’ve also decided to close out stores on Thanksgiving Day. - Bestbuy.com
Best Buy said it will start holiday deals earlier than in previous years and enhance how it fulfills online orders. Is it just me, or are we already seeing holiday ads even before Halloween? One can only wonder what 2020's pre-Black Friday ads will look like.
How's the overview with the company? According to CNBC, Best Buy's sales in the fiscal second quarter were up about 2.5% through July 18, compared to the same period a year ago. That includes sales growth of 2% in the U.S. and about 8% internationally.
Personally, I really like the idea of employers shutting down on Thanksgiving. Growing up, my dad worked for the railroad, and was always gone on holidays, even Christmas. Eventually, the railroad began to stop operations on Christmas Day, and we finally enjoyed the opportunity to have him home for the holiday.
As it stands, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have all announced they will close for Thanksgiving 2020. If giants such as these are taking this route, it seems reasonable to assume other major retailers will soon follow suit.
