Tanner Smolinski, a 16-year-old from Fruita, won the Voice of the San Juans singing competition recently, and for that young man, the sky is the limit.

Smolinksi was joined in the competition by Shannon Dean, Brandi Goddard, Shae Ila, Victoria Kasper, Brooke Matinez, Thomas Neil, Dalyn Pearson, Jordan Rediger, Jessica Stout, and Angela Thompson to see who would win one of the biggest singing competitions in the state.

Smolinski says he has been singing with his dad since he was five, and knew singing was what he wanted to do.

As the youngest competitor, you may think he would have little chance of winning, but that's what he did, beating out 23 other singers from the western slope.

Tanner enjoys singing songs by Elvis, Johnny Cash, and others and says winning on the Voice would be a really cool experience as well.

The competition is a fundraiser for a Montrose area non-profit, Altrusa International, which are involved in the community on a number of different levels.

To all of the competitors, congratulations on your accomplishment.
