Where in Western Colorado can one go to pay respects to those who served and died during the attack on Pearl Harbor? There are several memorials in the valley, but listed below are two you might now have visited before.

The Western Slope Honor Flight memorial shown above was built using funds left over following the five flights sending World War II veterans to the memorial in Washington DC. You can visit the Western Slope Honor Flight memorial at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2830 Riverside Parkway in Grand Junction.

Western Slope Honor Flight sent hundreds of WWII vets from Western Colorado to the WWII Memorial in Washington DC. When it was all said and done, enough funds remained to build the local memorial.

Colorado Mesa University recently unveiled their new Veteran's Memorial, located in the quad just South of the Student Center on the main campus. Whereas the memorial was originally dedicated to Vietnam vets, the University expanded the memorial to include all vets from all branches.

In the event, you haven't visited these two memorials, make plans to do so as soon as possible. They are excellent additions to the valley and convey the community's  appreciation to those who were there to serve this day back in 1941.
