Beginning this Wednesday, July 1st, the town of Vail will have electric bikes available to rent.

The bikes are made by Bewegen Technologies and offer a fun, eco-friendly alternative to driving around town. It will only cost $3 to rent one of these bikes for the first 30 minutes and an additional 15 cents per minute after that.

Vail already offers many ways to get around town, including free buses throughout the day, and plenty of trails that span a good amount of the town, but this sounds like it's going to be much more fun than hopping on a bus.

Eagle County was hit especially hard by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and while the number of cases has dwindled significantly, the town of Vail will be making sure that the bikes and stations are regularly sanitized.

While it seems like this would such a fun way to get across town, unfortunately, there will only be 12 bikes available and must be reserved via the Bewegen Vail app. In addition, riders must be 16 years of age or older.

Growing up in Eagle, I spent a lot of time in Vail, and I am really looking forward to visiting again this summer and trying out one of these bikes. Granted, you can't make an entire bus full of people sing Elton John's 'Tiny Dancer' while on a bike, (this actually happened once,) but it's a really cool idea nonetheless.
