Time to Ski, Eldora Set to Open Two Weeks Early
Let the ski season begin.
As Colorado ski resort operators hope for a repeat of last year's amazing snowfall totals and ski season, this year is off to a great start.
Eldora has announced it will be opening ahead of schedule with the first day of operation scheduled for November 1. That's one week ahead of last year's opening day, and 3 weeks ahead of the historic average opening day of November 22. It's the resort's earliest opening in 22 years.
The ski area received more than two feet of snow this month with conditions ideal for snowmaking. While all of Eldora's trails won't be ready for opening day, the high-speed, six-person chairlift will be in operation.
Eldora, located 21 miles west of Boulder, isn't the most convenient ski area for western slope ski hounds, but for those anxious to hit the slopes, it's a great option. Powderhorn isn't scheduled to open until December 13, so if you can't wait until then you might as well hit the road.
