More than anything else, Bob Denver will always be Gilligan to us, and forever etched in the annals of classic TV. I am such a huge fan of Gilligan's Island, I wanted to take a moment to remember Bob  on his birthday with five things you probably didn't know about him.

1) Bob once worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mailman, and also as a high school teacher.

2) Bob suffered a broken neck in 1956 which kept him from getting into the U.S. Army.

3) Bob was the same age as Elvis Presley...born the day after Elvis.

4) Denver, Colorado was named in honor of Bob's great, great grandfather James William Denver who was the territorial governor of Kansas.

5) Bob's son, Patrick, portrayed a young Gilligan in one of the episodes of Gilligan's Island in a dream sequence.

Bob Denver died on September 2, 2005 at the age of 70, about 18 months after the photos above were taken. After surviving quadruple by-pass surgery, Denver died while receiving treatment for throat cancer.
