Polis Announces When Camping Will Resume in Colorado State Parks
Camping has been on hold in our 41 state parks in Colorado, but in Polis' press conference on Monday, May 11, the governor announced camping can resume.
Effective on Tuesday, May 12, as long as host counties approve, Coloradans will be able to camp in state parks.
As Polis has stated previously, recreating outdoors and camping were not the concern in spreading the virus, as it can be done at a social distance. The hold on campgrounds opening was in place to keep tourists out of mountain communities, where they may spread infection.
Polis says to get gas and camping supplies in your area close to home, including food, and avoid visiting any other towns or businesses; just go to enjoy the outdoors.
Polis also said the dates below would determine the following:
May 25: Decision on spring skiing
May 25: Next steps for restaurants and summer camps
After June 1: Next steps for Safer at Home
The state needs more May data to determine when concerts and other events can safely return, Polis said, urging Coloradans to continue to take precautions like social distancing, wearing masks in public and staying home as much as possible.
