New Rockfall Fence in Glenwood Canyon To Cause Delays
Rockfall in Glenwood Canyon has caused deaths and injuries as well as road damage that has caused slowdowns and closures for years.
Now, CDOT is installing a new rockfall fence to try and keep the rocks from falling all the way down the hillside into the road below.
The project, at a cost of $1.5 million will occur between mile markers 122 and 125 and will be ongoing for months.
Motorists will find Glenwood Canyon reduced to one lane headed westbound, and frequent traffic stops. Speeds will be reduced to 35 mph during the project, which will run from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. and complete some time in August.
CDOT has stated the new barrier will be in place before removing the old rockfall fence. This is necessary because CDOT does not want to cause an avalanche of rocks before placing the new fence up.
Construction on the project is scheduled to begin today, March 26.
