Two more free testing sites for COVID-19 have opened up in Mesa County.

Mesa County Valley School District 51 is partnering with COVIDCheckColorado to provide free testing for District 51 students, staff, and their families. The testing sites are also available to the general public.

According to Mesa County Public Health, drive-up COVID-19 testing will be available at Grand Mesa Middle School and Fruita Monument High School Monday through Friday from 10am-5pm. Testing at these sites is by appointment only, which can be made online. District 51 students and staff have a special link for getting registered. Test results should be available within 72 hours.

There are now four free testing sites in Mesa County, as testing continues at the Mesa County Fairgrounds Tuesday through Saturday 10am-4pm, and at Colorado Mesa University Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm. Pre-registration is required for testing at the CMU location.

Mesa County Public Health says if you think you have been exposed to the virus, you should wait seven days before being tested unless you develop symptoms. They say some people may not get sick for up to 14 days after exposure which is why you should quarantine for 14 days after being exposed.

The list of possible symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

One of the keys to beating the virus in the community is getting people to stay home when they have some of these symptoms. Unfortunately, there are people with symptoms that continue to have public contact by going to work, shopping, and interacting with family members. Remember, if you are experiencing any symptoms at all, please do not expose yourself to others. While it's important to keep yourself safe and healthy, we also need to keep the health and welfare of others in our thoughts as well.
