UPDATED: Major Rock Slide Closes West Bound I-70 in Colorado Mountains
What has been termed a major rockslide has closed a portion of Interstate 70.
The interstate has been closed at Beaver Brook, mile marker 248 because of a rockslide at mile mark 236. At this point, there is no estimated time for reopening the highway . Westbound motorists should use U.S. 285.Traffic trying to bypass the closure via US 6/CO 119 or Central City Parkway will be turned around back to Denver.
There has also been a closure of westbound I-70 at Idaho Springs at mile marker 239 due to rocks on the road.
A winter storm and blizzard warning remains in effect for the front range and northeastern Colorado through today.
We'll update this post with further news about I-70.
UPDATE: 12:00PM: Officials estimate a reopening of the highway by late this afternoon.
UPDATE: 1:39PM: The westbound lanes of I-70 at Beaver Brook have reopened following rockslide clean up.
