It's time for a hat tip to a sheriff's department officer who dug into his own pocket, big time, to help a homeless woman and her children. Break out the Kleenex... it's tissue time.

The Grand Junction Police Department posted a hat tip on their Facebook page recognizing a deputy from another department. Deputy Brian Bussel, a 25-year veteran of the Butler County Sheriff's Department in Ohio, took prompt, and very costly action, when he spotted a homeless woman and her two children last Sunday.

Bussel spotted the woman and two children in the lobby at the Butler County Jail. After awhile, it became obvious they weren't waiting to see someone. Bussel approached the family, only to discover they were homeless, and days away from receiving assistance.

The family had sought lodging at various shelters, but found them already full, or having time limits which the family had already exceeded.

Bussel took it open himself to pay for lodging at a hotel, ten nights of lodging, out of his own pocket. He also purchased clothing for the entire family.

Here in Grand Junction, 1,428 miles from Butler County, we appreciate the efforts of Deputy Butler. Kudos to you, too, Sheriff Jones, for running such an incredible department with such dedicated officers.
