Bishop Castle's creator and namesake, Jim Bishop, was a local legend for many years due to his eccentric nature as well as the enormous structure he built from the ground up.

Unfortunately, Bishop passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, and while his castle will undoubtedly serve as an unmatched memorial to carry on his legacy, two public memorials have also been announced to remember the Colorado icon.

In addition to the probably-not-up-to-code castle that he built, Bishop was known for his rebellious nature, his eccentricity, and the fact that he used to spend a lot of time at his massive creation even when he wasn't adding another stairway or quirky piece of art to it.

Because of this, it's fitting that a public memorial will take place at the castle that towers over Colorado Highway 165 at a to-be-determined date in the summer of 2025.

However, another public memorial will take place much sooner in which weather won't be a factor. The first memorial to honor the life and legacy of Jim Bishop will take place on Friday, December 6, 2024, at St Mary Church in Pueblo beginning at 10 a.m.
