Look: Grand Junction’s Crosby Avenue Overhaul Begins in April
Many residents in Grand Junction are unaware of the location of Crosby Avenue. It’s a handy shortcut that travels behind the Rim Rock Walmart and links motorists with Main Street and downtown.
In April, Crosby Avenue will benefit from a $3 million reconstruction project that will add bike lanes, improved lighting, and a shared-use path to link neighborhoods with the downtown corridor. Here are the details.

April’s Crosby Avenue reconstruction project between Main Street and Base Rock Street will improve safety and connectivity for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians on foot. Dedicated bike lanes, a shared-use path, and pavement upgrades will modernize the corridor. The project is expected to run from April to October, depending on the weather.
Why Residents Are Watching the Project Closely
For those unfamiliar with Crosby, it is a useful shortcut to bypass sections of the I-70 Business Loop corridor. If you have ever walked or ridden a bike over the pedestrian bridge that crosses Riverside Parkway and the railroad tracks south of Grand Avenue, it stops at Crosby Avenue. This is why the city wants to add the bike lanes and shared-use path. It will finish the connection with West Main Street.

The development of the riverfront, the riverside trail, and all the additions at Las Colonias over the past 5 years are impressive, and Grand Junction continues the work. The Crosby Avenue reconstruction project is another project that aims to connect neighborhoods to downtown and the regional trail system. These plans are consistent throughout Mesa County, intending to improve our active transportation options and create safer streets.
