There is no star athlete on the packaging, yet a banana and oatmeal could very possibly be the breakfast of champions.

It's a simple, but effective meal.

According to foodmatters.com there's at least 25 good reasons to eat bananas including improving your mood, reducing swelling, strengthen the blood, aid in digestion, and the fact that they are high in potassium and low in salt. One banana has only about 105 calories.

Besides the nutritional benefits, bananas are relatively inexpensive, they are easy to eat, and can be consumed without the juicy mess of fruits like grapefruit, apples, and peaches. The station engineer sort of frowns upon sticky grapefruit juice on the audio console in the studio.

Then there's the oatmeal, which when eaten in combination with the banana, actually makes the banana taste better, which is a great benefit for those of us who don't think the flavor of bananas is all that yummy delicious.

Oatmeal is a good source of fiber, and who among us doesn't need more fiber? One serving is just 150 calories. For about $2.50 you can get a month's supply of oatmeal, and the cool thing is you can eat it right out of the box. No cooking is necessary, and no water is required. The oatmeal can be consumed like a horse, just the way I'm sure God intended, and personally, I won't eat it any other way.

So there you have it, the breakfast of champions - a banana and oatmeal.  Give it a try! It's healthy, it's cheap, and no napkins are required.
