Today marks the grand opening of another gas station on Highway 50 in Orchard Mesa. This is great! On the other hand, it makes for several gas stations, all within a distance of less than one mile, and all on the same side of the road. Is this situation getting a bit skewed?

The new Maverick station opens today at 27 Road and Highway 50 in Orchard Mesa. That brings us to a total of four gas stations all on the same side of the road. Not only that, but I did a poor-man's test the other night, and all four of the stations are located within a distance of less than 8/10th of a mile.

I probably wouldn't care, but one thing strikes me as a bit odd; there are no gas stations on the other side of Highway 50. As a matter of fact, I can't think of one station on the south side of Highway 50 anywhere between Grand Junction and Delta. It seems people driving East don't need fuel.

Keep in mind, my little expose doesn't even factor in the gas station on the north side of Highway 50 at 29 roads. That would make five stations one the same side of the road, within a distance of two miles.
