The Montrose County Sheriff's Department has announced it has apprehended the Grinch, and intends to keep him - or "it" - incarcerated until December 26th.

In a tongue-in-cheek news release last week, Montrose County Sheriff Rick Dunlap said his officers responded to a complaint of an individual trying to remove Christmas decorations. After a brief chase, the subject was apprehended, but refused to disclose his identity. Fingerprints were submitted, and it was determined they were dealing with the infamous Mr. Grinch.

Dunlap said Mr. Grinch is being held without bond until after Christmas.

I am hoping that with Mr. Grinch out of commission in Western Colorado,  the next few days will bring nothing but good tidings, cheer, kindness, and generosity. After all, that's what Christmas is all about.

It's the spirit in our hearts that counts. It's not what we give, or how much money we spend that matters. It truly is the thought that counts. Is there a spirit of love and kindness in our hearts, or is their a spirit of selfishness, stinginess, and greed? Are we too busy and consumed with the hustle and bustle of the holiday to think about someone else?

Let's keep Mr. Grinch locked up for the rest of the holiday season. Smile at a stranger today. Lend a hand of assistance to someone struggling to get along. Look for someone in need. Visit a shut in. Say a kind word to a co-worker.Let's not be to busy and self-absorbed to reach out to the less fortunate. Let's be people of love and compassion...and may that spirit linger well past the holiday season and into the  new year.
