Grand Junction’s Holiday Grease Can Be Recycled
Of course, we are all recycling our plastic, aluminum, cardboard and paper, and now we can recycle all of that holiday grease.
Grease is definitely the word in Grand Junction right now, and we aren't talking Danny, Sandy, and the gang at Rydell High School. We're talking about the cooking oil and grease that is responsible for so much delicious goodness during the holidays.
There is currently a second location in Grand Junction where you can safely and responsibly dispose of your holiday grease. There is a recycling container in front of the Water Services Office, near the recycling center at 333 West Avenue. You also have the option of disposing of cooking oil at the Mesa County Landfill.
The holidays are typically a busy time in the kitchen and the recycling program helps reduce the amount of cooking oils and grease in the sewer system. The result is a reduction in sewer maintenance and cleaning activities during the holiday season.
Cooking oil disposal site hours are Monday through Friday from 7 am-4 pm and Saturday 9 am-3 pm. Collections will be received until January 15th, and, of course, the site will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Recycling your holiday grease is going to take a little extra effort, but the effort will help alleviate a lot of potential problems. If you have any questions you can call the city at 970-244-1557.
