A longstanding Grand Junction business complex is now home to an exciting new coffee house. After a quick look around, it appears as though this might just be the new hangout you've been looking for.

Please welcome Copeka Coffee at 1012 N. 5th Street, on the corner of 5th and Belford. Grand Junction residents were jumping for joy all over social media when this new shop opened on November 21.

You'll find the new venue in the Menagerie Square. How long has that shopping complex been around? I was born here in 1970, and I can't remember a time it wasn't there.

What's so exciting about another coffee house? Well, for starters, you'll notice a little nook in the northwest corner all set up for live entertainment. That's right, a coffee house featuring live music! Other forms of entertainment include poetry reading, improv theater, and more.

If you are into adult beverages, you'll notice a liquor license application posted in the window. They don't expect approval on their license until January, but in reality, that's just around the corner.

What else do they offer? Well, in addition to a wide variety of coffees, it seems they have soups and pastries.

On a side note and a very classy one at that, they serve their espresso accompanied by a glass of sparkling water. This is the way espresso is served at the traditional coffee houses in Austria. Years ago, while on tour with an orchestra in Europe, I enjoyed the chance to have coffee served in this fashion at the very coffee house Mozart used to visit daily in the 1700's when he lived in Salzburg. Very tasteful.

Unfortunately, they were not open in time to make our survey of Grand Junction's best coffee house. We took it to a vote, and Orchard Mesa's Jitterz came in first place.

This place is awesome. I'm looking forward to visiting when they have live music. Copeka Coffee is open for business at 6:30 in the morning, so swing on by.
