Grand Junction Police Report Two Fatal Accidents in Two Days
The Grand Junction Police Department responded to two auto crashes, one on Friday the other on Saturday. Both accidents, less than 24 hours apart, resulted in a fatality.
The first fatal accident on Friday (November 17) happened on the 5th Street bridge. Just after 4 p.m. a vehicle traveling north over the bridge struck a male pedestrian who had stepped off of the curb and into the road. The victim was taken to the hospital but died from injuries received in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged pending completion of the investigation into the accident. Police report speed, drugs or alcohol are not a factor in the accident. The names of the driver and pedestrian are not yet available.
The second fatal accident on Saturday (November 18) happened around 2:40 p.m. In that crash, a Chevy truck headed south on 25 1/2 Road ran the stop sign at Independent Avenue and crashed into a cinder block wall. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe some sort of medical event led to the crash. There is no indication either drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The driver was the only person in the truck and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
